WORK SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments. Our full-time Education Coordinator- Volunteer is a weekly schedule, including weekends, and the compensation for this position is $17.50. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN EDUCATION COORDINATOR - VOLUNTEERS

Did you know San Antonio Zoo has over 200 volunteers sharing the zoo's mission of conservation and education? The Education Coordinator - Volunteers is pivotal to the daily operation of the volunteer team, including docents, interns, youth volunteers, and community volunteers. They will help coach and train new and seasoned volunteers to ensure the zoo's mission, and the message is delivered in an authentic, relevant, and meaningful way. This position will also collaborate with other departments to oversee and organize community outreach opportunities. The Education Coordinator - Volunteers work closely with the Education Manager - Volunteers to establish protocols, implement training, motivate volunteers and support the daily operation of Education's Animal Encounter Team. All initiatives align with the zoo's vision to secure a future for wildlife and promote conservation-based behavioral change.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION COORDINATOR - VOLUNTEERS

  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public in person, by email, and on the phone.
  • Knowledge of conservation, zoology, ecology, animal behavior, and related topics.
  • Knowledge of interpretation and current guest experience trends.
  • Knowledge of human resources, volunteer organizations, and management.
  • Ability to train and motivate staff/volunteers to engage zoo guests in fun and effective conservation education encounters.
  • Proven team player with strong leadership skills, positive outlook, and ability to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to organize, be attentive to details, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks and communicating well with multiple departments and management.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, human resources, volunteer management, information systems, science, education, or related field.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and after-hours assignments.
  • 2 years of experience with volunteer programs at a similar facility is preferred.
  • Ability and flexibility to accommodate last-minute program and schedule changes with a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
  • We enjoy year-round operation for all staff and must be available day, nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
