San Antonio Zoo of San Antonio, TX, is looking to hire a Grant Writer to join our zoo family! Are you a seasoned Grant Writer professional passionate about advocating for animals? San Antonio Zoo is hiring a full-time Grant Writer to expand our grants program and manage current grants as needed. The zoo is looking for an experienced and successful grants writer to identify new funding opportunities and write persuasive proposals. WORK SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments. Our full-time Grant Writer is a weekly schedule, and the compensation for this position is $55K.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and the animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work makes a difference in wildlife conservation.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR GRANT WRITER

  • Strong written communication skills: writing clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Education equivalent to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate field.
  • Two to three years of related experience in grant writing and contract administration.
  • Previous experience serving a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Strong editing skills
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge of research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Exceptional research skills, thorough knowledge of word processing.
  • Knowledge of database management and proficiency with spreadsheet programs.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience with Raisers Edge database is a plus.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
