As a Part-Time Lory Landing Exhibit Interpreter for San Antonio Zoo, you will be responsible for general husbandry, enrichment, and training of 25 Rainbow lorikeets consisting of 3 species, along with educating guests in our interactive Aviary on everything LORIKEET. WORK SCHEDULE AND HOURLY RATE

We are a year-round operation; this position requires a rotating schedule to workdays, weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments. The Exhibit Interpreter is 25 hours a week, and the hourly rate for this position is $9.26.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN LORY LANDING EXHIBIT INTERPRETER

As a Lory Landing Exhibit Interpreter in the Aviculture Department, you will perform various tasks related to the handling and care of animals/birds and their environments. As Exhibit Interpreters, you will also provide educational information along to the public through informal interpretations. Interpreters use exhibit graphics, biofacts, and live animals to deliver informative conservation messages in an interactive aviary.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and the animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work is making a difference in wildlife conservation.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR LORY LANDING EXHIBIT INTERPRETER

  • Basic understanding of aviculture, general husbandry, and bird anatomy.
  • Strong customer service background as indicated by educational knowledge and/or previous experience.
  • Knowledge of avian behavior and biology is preferred.
  • For the safety of our animals, team members, and guests, you must be able to work safely around delicate, wild, and dangerous animals.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relations with fellow employees.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills are preferred.
  • Ability to handle, examine, and move sick, injured, or struggling birds safely and appropriately.
  • Ability to handle, examine, and transfer eggs safely.
  • Associate degree in wildlife management, zoology, biology, or related field preferred.
  • One-year Zoo keeping experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, Drug Screen TB test.
  • We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
