San Antonio Zoo is looking to hire part-time Zoo Quality Hosts to join our family! Do you get a sense of pride when you clean? We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to workdays, weekends, holidays, and occasionally after-hours for special assignments. The part-time Zoo Quality work schedule is from 8:30 am to 1 pm, and the hourly compensation for this position is $8.40.


Fun perks include discounts on entry, food, merchandise, an annual zoo pass, and a merit increase after 6 months of satisfactory performance. In addition to the employee recognition program, eligible for internal positions after 4 months of employment and employee appreciation events!


As a Zoo Quality team member, you must maintain the zoo grounds and buildings' cleanliness. Work is performed under the immediate direction of Admissions and Zoo Quality Manager or Assistant Manager but may be performed under general supervision once learned. In addition, you will have constant direct guest contact and must always exhibit excellent guest service.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and the animals we protect. In addition, it would be best if you took pride in knowing your hard work is making a difference in wildlife conservation.


  • Must be at least 16 years or older
  • Able to understand, foresee, and apply necessary safety precautions to the zoo environment.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively and appropriately while upholding professional standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with fellow employees.
  • Ability to interact with the public and other staff professionally.
  • Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to develop skills in operating power equipment used in performing assigned jobs.
  • Sufficient physical strength, coordination, and agility to start, stop, and efficiently operate gasoline engine power sweepers and efficiently operate a floor buffer.
  • Ability to perform work tasks while bending, to stand, kneeling, squatting, lifting, twisting, reaching, or sitting.
  • Prior experience with floor buffer preferred.
  • Prior experience with cleaning chemicals preferred.
  • Responsible for completing all online training courses by assigned deadlines.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
  • Must work in varying climates and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).
