San Antonio Zoo of San Antonio, TX, is looking to hire a full-time Herpetology Manager to join our zoo family! You would be part of the leadership team responsible for the day-to-day care of the zoo's reptiles and amphibians. We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments. Our Herpetology Manager has a full-time schedule, including weekends, and the compensation for this position is $40K.

As a Herpetology Manager, you are responsible for training, supervising, observing, and evaluating department staff. You will perform various supervisory tasks to ensure the team provides proper husbandry and handling techniques for all the department's reptiles and amphibians. These duties include the daily maintenance of exhibits, service areas, and buildings. You are responsible for assuring proper medical treatment of all the department specimens following instructions from the Zoo Veterinarian.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and the animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work is making a difference in wildlife conservation.


  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife/fisheries management, zoology, biology, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Five years of direct experience with reptile/amphibian care.
  • Three years of experience in a zoological setting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software platforms.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and compile reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in organization, decision-making, problem-solving, and creating a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with rigid deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and success working with reptiles and amphibian of diverse species.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks and communicating well with multiple departments and management.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, Drug Screen, and TB.
