As a Mammals II Animal Care Specialist for San Antonio Zoo, you would be responsible for the day-to-day care of these beautiful animals. WORK SCHEDULE

We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments. Our Mammals Animal Care Specialist is 40 hours a week, and the compensation for this position is $12.50.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN MAMMALS II ANIMAL CARE SPECIALIST

As an Animal Care Specialist with our Mammal II department, you will perform a wide variety of tasks related to providing proper handling, care, maintenance of animals, exhibit areas, buildings, enclosures, shelters, and service areas. The Mammals II is responsible for ensuring suitable medical treatments of zoo animals following instructions of Zoo Veterinarians, daily cleaning and maintenance of animal enclosures and service areas.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and the animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work is making a difference in wildlife conservation.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAMMALS II ANIMAL CARE SPECIALIST

  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with team members.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software platforms.
  • Associate degree in wildlife management, zoology, biology, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Elephant experience in protected contact management is preferred.
  • Minimum one-year zoo keeping experience preferred.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with AZA accreditation standards, code of ethics, and representative husbandry standards. Familiar with AZA or other captive population management programs.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, Drug Screen, and TB test.
  • Must work in varying climates and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).
