The Rides Operator performs a variety of tasks related to the safe operation of the Zoo Carousel, Zoo Train and any other rides that may be operated by the San Antonio Zoo.  A Rides Operator is expected to learn minor maintenance that would require inspection of the rides prior to operation.  The Rides Operator has constant direct guest interaction and must always exhibit awesome guest service.

  • Ensure each guest prior to loading rides meets rider height/age safety requirements.
  • Operate train switches, as needed.
  • Assist our guests with mobility issues with getting on and off the rides. Operate the wheelchair ramp features for passengers.
  • Inspect rides for trash prior to loading our guests.
  • Ensure rides are ready at opening time.
  • Complete opening and closing pre-operations and safety logs for each ride daily.
  • Follow all SOP procedures and ride rules.
  • Will be cross-trained with Ride Operator-Kiddie Park
  • Constantly exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
  • Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect. 
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.


  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate the rides and equipment safely.
  • Commitment to quality and the ability to ensure the performance of exceptional service to both internal and external guest.
  • Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
  • This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License or a valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 45 days of becoming employed.
  • We enjoy year-round hours for all staff, must be available nights, weekends and occasional after-hour assignments.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record throughout the duration of employment.
