As an Audio Visual Technician is responsible for setting up, installing, operating, testing, and troubleshooting audio and video equipment. The position demands a high level of reasoning, strong self-motivation, and a customer service attitude.





  • Set up and install equipment such as microphones, sound speakers, video screens, computers to projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards for events and functions such as presentations, meetings & conventions, and news conferences.
  • Confer with meeting presenters to establish cues and directions.
  • Custom lighting systems.
  • Ensure equipment installed according to the designated layout.
  • Test and resolve equipment issues.
  • Send in equipment for repairs as needed.
  • Discuss assignments.
  • Clean audio and video equipment and store correctly.
  • Ensure the safe transfer and shipment of equipment.
  • Perform duties on location.
  • Ability to duplicate audio and video data.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment
  • Constantly exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
  • Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.


  • Present a neat and tidy appearance / professional dress.
  • HS diploma or GED 
  • We enjoy year-round hours for all staff, must be available nights, weekends, and general readiness during our peak seasons.
  • Switch video input sources.
  • Strong customer service skills and patience with all internal and external guests.
  • Mix sound inputs and feeds.
  • Set up and operate sound equipment.
  • Diagnose and correct media system problems.
  • Monitor sound feeds to ensure quality.
  • Work with lighting systems.
  • Set up and operate spotlights.
  • Experience working with computers & projectors required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint programs, required.
  • Ability to help organize, plan & manage A/V projects.
