As an IT Associate Technician, you will assist the I.T. Director in the performance of their duties, which includes but is not limited to providing technical hardware and software support for individual workstations and networked systems. You will need a high level of reasoning with regards to network & computer systems, strong self-motivation, and a customer service attitude, as you'll be working closely with colleagues and encounter guests daily. You must be comfortable and professional when interacting with different levels of Zoo team members.




  • Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, and configuring systems and applications.
  • Maintain & repair individual computers: administer, install & troubleshoot workstations running Windows 7, 8.1, OS X, & associated peripherals: printers, scanners, digital cameras, external drives, etc.
  • Learn & assist in maintaining computer networks: help administer, install & troubleshoot dedicated computer systems to include membership, payroll, time clocks, Microsoft Exchange, & Trend Micro anti-virus.
  • Train on & implement IP phone system "moves, add, & changes." Install, test & repair phone wall jacks & cabling
  • Help plan, implement & administer user management, security, & backups.
  • Assist staff in the selection & installation of proprietary software packages for dedicated services.
  • Assist with maintenance of archival system & library of images of Zoo photographs & slides.
  • Prepare proposals for staff incorporating information collected from multiple sources.
  • Constantly exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
  • Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.


  • A+ Certification or equivalent skills, Network+ certification, or equivalent skills.
  • A minimum of 2 - 5 years of related experience.
  • Ability to understand and adequately explain every aspect of the structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross and inter-connections, and testing
  • Demonstrate understanding of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices and the ability to differentiate between them and make recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of networked systems, particularly Microsoft Office, including Windows 7, 1, & OS X.
  • Knowledge of network layout & hardware, including an understanding of router configuration.
  • Proven ability of Microsoft Exchange, user management, security, backups, & network monitoring protocol/systems.
  • Self-motivated and excellent work ethic.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and modify priorities in a fast pace environment.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills; ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships within an organization as well as with outside vendors; superior interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse personalities; tactful; mature; flexible.
  • Ability to work independently (as well as in a team) and effectively manage within the time required to organize, direct and effectively accomplish responsibilities/tasks
