As a Culinary Clerk, you will have more direct guest contact than any other single group of Zoo employees and must always exhibit a positive guest service attitude and apparent interest in guest assistance.  You will perform tasks related to counter sales, food preparation, presentation, cooking, stocking, beverage drawing, cash handling, catering, and sanitizing.  You will also frequently handle large sums of money during the work shift.

Essential Duties

  • Assist in the set up of individual stands for daily business.
  • Determine the volume of food to be prepared to ensure food sales are maintained.
  • Work as a cashier as needed.
  • Receive cash, checks, and credit cards from the guest in payment for sales.
  • Accurately count and record money and credit card sales at the end of the day.
  • Work all equipment as needed, including the grill and fryers.
  • Ensure orders are quickly prepared and served to the guest.
  • Ensure daily supply orders are accurately completed for the stand.
  • Ensure the stand is properly closed and cleaned at the end of the day's business.
  • Ensure the stand is kept clean and sanitary during the business day.
  • Assist the Section Leaders with any duties required for the safe operation of your assigned work area.
  • Assist the Manager with catered events at the Zoo.
  • Assist in the training of new employees regarding daily stand duties.
  • Read and understand the cash handling policy.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.


  • Ability to use various types of electronic cash registers.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to recognize and quickly perform any duties required to maintain a clean and sanitary food establishment.
  • Able to constantly demonstrate honesty in day-to-day performance.
  • We enjoy year-round hours for all staff, must be available nights, weekends and occasional after-hour assignments.
  • Ability to follow the weekly schedule without question.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age due to position duties and equipment use requirements.
  • Cash handling experience a plus.

Must be able to safely lift 25 pounds from ground to chest level and walk 10 feet.
